'Arrested Development' fans: Get the popcorn ready for Memorial Day weekend
I'll confess that it's been far too long since I sat down and watched the three gloriously funny, quirky, wonderful seasons of Arrested Development. Yes, I have the DVDs and yes, the show is streaming on Netflix, but I've spent the past month finishing up Alias (more on that at some point in the future). Even at a mere 21 minutes each, I just haven't found the right time to refresh my Arrested Development memory.
That time, fellow AD fans, is now: We have an actual release date for the fourth season of Arrested Development! Netflix confirms that all 15 new episodes will drop at once at exactly 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013. So here's the deal: Will you watch them all in one sweep? It's going to be difficult not to, after we've all waited so long for this to happen. Incidentally, all of the new episodes will be focusing on one specific character. This ought to be an interesting ride.
I have a plan: I'm going to watch half of the new Arrested Development episodes as soon as they come out (putting on a pot or five of coffee on Saturday around 11 p.m.) and then the other half on Sunday evening. Then I might just take Monday, May 27, off to reflect. Besides, it's my birthday, I'm entitled right? I can't think of a better present, really. That Monday is also Memorial Day, so hopefully many of us will have the day off from work anyway. Party time (and all of you are invited to mine)!
In the meantime, I've got exactly six weeks to finish the Great Arrested Development Rewatching before the new episodes appear. That's totally doable.
As far as the long-awaited Arrested Development movie, well, get ready to wait a bit longer. AD star Jason Bateman's dishing out the scoop about the timeline, saying that a movie will likely come "about a year, maybe a year-and-a-half" after season four debuts.
We can wait, can't we? I mean it's not like we haven't shown incredible patience up to this point! Bateman, by the way, also reveals that there is a strong tie-in between the upcoming new Arrested Development episodes and the film. It's a grand plan. It's going to happen, eventually. We're already almost there!
