Well, I just posted at Detecto-Vision, but since that site is less trafficked these days, I mosied on over here.
A few thoughts:
1. Strange how decisions on scouting and player development made during Bavasi's era are still affecting this team so much, but that will be true for a few years no doubt. Think of all the talent passed by when Jeff Clement was drafted, and we all know who was passed by when Brandon Morrow was picked.
2. Is this statement that Morrow wants to go to the pen truly his wish, or just some PR move in which he's covering for a front office too scared at the thought of David Aardsma closing? They did release Tyler Walker, so it would seem Morrow may genuinely want to go the bullpen and the Mariners are accommodating him.
3. I'm probably more disappointed by Clement being optioned to AAA--what's to lose by taking a shot and leaving him in the MLB lineup all year long with at least 450 PA's? Then again, maybe Rob Johnson will showcase himself nicely as a solid backstop and we can trade him(along with some other parts, like Washburn) by June, giving Clement a spot to showcase himself for the rest of the season. Gawd only knows we have too much catching depth--1, maybe 2 guys have got to go by season's end. Adam Moore is starting the season at AA for pete's sake!
4. Is there any chance--any at all?--that Erik Bedard is still interested in a long-term contract with the Mariners? Then again, left-handed starting pitching isn't what the Mariners need right now, anyway.
5. Someone please put a magical spell of protection on Phillipe Aumont's arm. We never needed a pitcher to pan out like we do him over the next 2-3 years!
Just my 2.5 cents. ;)
