Kid DIY
We just bought our house, and while we are still over the moon excited, we have lots of work ahead of us. It’s an old 50s house, built by my grandparents, and everything from the cinderblock basement to its siding needs either repairs or complete remodeling. It will probably take us a few years to get everything we want done complete, but we are taking it one day at a time.
Wood Sprite is getting into the DIY spirit with us. While Indy knocks down basement walls, he gives her a hammer and lets her join in. Today, when he took apart the downstairs bathroom wall, he stripped it of its tile and gave her some (along with a light switch plate) to use in her own projects. As you can see, she is turning the plate into dragon scales for her own bedroom (she’s still coloring it as I type) and she drew a fun scene with flowers, snails and an onion on the tile that we will put in the new bathroom. In fact, her one drawing has inspired us to create many individual tiles for our new bathroom—much like the ones that our nearby pottery studio uses in its bathroom.
We have been doing lots of other DIY projects around here, too, from scarves to deodorant, door draft dodgers to our own stuffed animals. What kinds of projects have you and your family been up to lately? Share your stories and any links you have in the comments below.
