I don't think you're over-interpretting.
The problem with trading Lopez this offseason is that the free agent market offers a few decent 2B.  Hudson, Polanco, DeRosa, Kennedy, F Lopez, and a few interesting fringey guys.  You could even consider our good buddy Chone in that group.  I'm not sure a team 'over'pays for Lopez with that kind of depth on the FA market.
