Is Sweeney an injury risk? Ya, sure. But it's entirely possible that Sweeneey has had his injuries, he's rehabbed, his body has adjusted, scar tissue formed, he's strengthened other muscles to compensate, and he may be at a lower injury risk than he's been in 5 years. As a fellow pushing 40, I can see that. Back problems bothered me to the point where I stopepd riding bicycles many years ago. Now, I can ride one no problem. What changed? Nothing, just the passage of time.
I don't know that we've seen any correlation between Sweeney's field time and his injuries. I would say there's even an argument to be made that playing the field keeps him more active and less likely to pull or strain something than if he were DH'ing.
I say play him as much as possible right now, and take your chances.
