My girlfriend happens to be a Red Sox fan...albeit a casual one, rather than a die-hard.
The Red Sox still seem like a dirty big-market cheater to me even though they compete with the Yankees.  They get a TON of players they shouldn't get on cheap contracts because they want to play on a winner and NOT on the Yankees.  Guys like Rocco Baldelli, Kevin Youikilis, Mike Cameron, etc...lots of their recent relievers...signed explicitly for cheaper than other offers just to play with the Sox.  Whereas, I grew up rooting for a team that free agents routinely USED to jack up bids from other suiters because no one wanted to play there (too far away...out in the middle of nowhere...not seen as serious about winning, etc).
