It happened to Montero for non-age reasons, apparently, but he only lost 400k.  Peguero lost more than almost all international free agents actually MAKE.
So my guess is he's 18 or 19 now, not 17. Which sucks.  I know they said his date of birth is still listed in 1993, but that would have to be one heck of an elbow/shoulder injury to cost him 1.8 million dollars.
I guess maybe if he needs Tommy John right away on this throwing arm, which would drop a year off his development and might make shortstop a tough position to play.
Shame - I really like his swing.  Hopefully he's healthy and happy, even if a bit poorer.
And we use that 1.8 million on another player, maybe in June for a tough sign.
