If you remark, "Hey, you're dismissing the author, and not dealing with his ideas," they seem genuinely mystified.  "Isn't that what you do to us?"
No, it ain't.

As to the threshold, that author has driven me batty for a long time ... nobody really wants to read spitting wars, though.  We want to read about the M's.
