They count, and the early advantage goes to the Platoon Hitters, which would be fine if baseball lasted a month or two. But over the long season, if bullpens are configured to rely on 5 guys, if they aren't all lights out guys, their individual workloads would double from what they are now, to 140-180 IP. I suggested something like that at the beginning of last season (Using the Cerberus guys to make an 8 Man Rotation where 3 starters piggy backed as relievers in other pitchers starts at inning 5 or 6), but the fact is that it leaves you open to teams with large platoon splits that don't need to pinch hit.
