Brandon Maurer did not shake Montero off, not a single time. He called for all of those breaking pitches, much like he did in Joe Saunder's first start for the M's. Of course, in Joe's next start Montero was getting signals from the bench on what to call and the results were much better.
I'm starting to think Jesus Montero called a really bad game, and Brandon Maurer was too nervous to do any more than follow Montero's lead. Maurer admitted to being nervous when he started in spring training. Can you imagine how he felt making his Seattle debut?
Don't over analyze what happened last night from Maurer, there were a lot of variables in play that may not be there in his next start. Wedgies lack of answers does not mean that he doesn't know what the real problem is, and it may well be Montero.
