What are you watching this fall?
Indy and I have so many shows this fall that we don’t often get to watch them until we have a night with a sitter! We’re watching new shows The Shield, which is brilliant if inconsistent (we care about not killing a potential bad guy in one episode but don’t mind in two others?) as well as Sleepy Hollow, which has a very stupid, meandering plot but a good lead detective, her cool sister and lots of cool creatures (yes, I’m an addict; where’s Guillermo del Toro with this one?). We’re also watching our usual shows and we’re taping the new Wonderland show, but we still haven’t had time to watch it just yet.
Last fall, I tried to watch the CW’s Beauty and the Beast program because I absolutely loved the original with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman, but it was horrendous. The show was bad, the term “cop” was extremely loosely used, and the beast was only a beast part-time. All of it was stupid, so I was very surprised that it was renewed for another season.
Then I found out about how the last couple of episodes included domestic violence in the relationship between the two protagonists. It seems like ever since our culture embraced the mentally, physically and emotionally abusive trash that is the Twilight franchise, now abusing your partner is a general part of romance. I don’t watch the show, but InkGypsy at Once Upon a Blog does and you can read her commentary—and watch the disturbing GIFs—there. I am just crossing my fingers that parents know about this and they are not only telling their teens—over and over again—how this is NOT how you treat a person, but that they are modeling positive relationships in their own lives, too. Teens suck up media so quickly and none of this is any good to ingest.
So what are you watching? What am I missing? What’s the best stuff on TV this season?
