Jeremy Gwinn meets Wade Davis
ain't no thang, Dept.

.

We've asked RockiesJeff to keep us posted on his son's career with the Royals.  He was good enough to send this along to Moe and I.  Jeff never calls attention to himself, but I think he tolerates it if we share ...

.

I had to share with you guys that tonight Wade Davis pitched an inning of rehab with the AZ Royals. I was shocked when my wife asked me who Wade Davis was????? Same one who is one of the best in baseball obviously. Anyway, after the game Jeremy text me and said it was fun to chill with Wade Davis in the bullpen.

Jeremy had a couple of hiccup innings that hurt the stat side of life but he is down to 4.11 ERA. At least you can see that he is settling in. The last 30 days (albeit small sample as few innings) he only has a .167 batting average against. Making adjustments to a few tweaks in hand separation and delivery and getting used to the Royal's pitching warm up routine seemed to take an obvious toll for about 3 weeks. AZ rookie league ends on 8/29 or whenever they are out of the playoffs. Then instructional league starts on 9/19-10/22.

I can't believe it is almost September. I had wanted to get to Seattle but obviously never did. I am coaching golf right now so every day is too full for another month. Hopefully soon. And someday say hi to each of you!  I might try to come up and take a trip with my Mom to see our Marine son Cody when he gets back from Okinawa. That will likely be late in the year but still unknown.

Just getting a chance to speak with Wade Davis one-on-one for a while, with only half-a-dozen other people around ... that's a pricey summer camp, right?  :- )

And it gets you to thinking about the massive download, and the experiences, that go into a mature major league career.  In chess they say there are literally 50,000 "chunks" of information that go into becoming a grandmaster.  Literally 50,000 things a GM has to learn how to avoid, before he can make the game look easy ...

Besides that, it's got to be pretty fun to meet a 'legend' so far above your pay grade.  We can relate to the way that newly-promoted AL rookies get starstruck.  Well, except for Edwin Diaz?

Thanks for the update coach!

Not much starstruck-iness there last nght.  At least one offering registered triple digits.

Don't look now, but we're building a Royals type pen.

But there is certainly a spot for Jeremy Gwinn, riding a rocket to Safeco in '18.

Thanks Doc! The short season is almost over so will let you know how it ends. Then Instructional League starts on Sept 22nd. Hard to believe summer has come and gone. Of course, at our altitude the leaves are about to turn. Ugh! Can't wait to get Jeremy home for a bit. And really appreciate all of you and your encouragement!

Thanks guys! Moe...you never know...but thankful for KC! Their regular season just ended against the AZ Mariners with a 5-1. Jeremy pitched a clean 9th to end with a respectable 3.57 ERA.

A line from an old Conan novel.  Where an old sensei squares off in sparring, Conan backs down, whereupon sensei offers to teach Conan some of his 'small' technique.  Nay, old man, not small, but I must go.

3.57 happens to be Ian Kennedy's ERA for the Royals! right now, which ERA is running #15 in the AL among qualified starters.  Maybe Jeremy would be amused by the coincidence?

Jeremy had one ugly inning, maybe two....and beyond that he was tougher than his 3.57 indicates.

OK..if he gets to KC in '17 (and not Safeco)...or whenever...you can bet you'' hear a celebratory Yelp! from me!

You go kid!!

3.57....leave it to the guys here. Always a step behind here! That is great! Thanks!!! Getting Seattle rain here...messing up for coaching golf!
