Such a great game!
The Seattle Thunderbirds lost badly against the Chiefs last Sunday in a shutout defeat, but they have since redeemed themselves in one of the most exciting games they have had lately. There were barely any goals scored for the night with a final score of 2-1, but it was an intense game with hard hits, lots of tension and the kind of heart-stopping moments that fans crave at any sporting event—particularly ice hockey.
Perhaps it was because fans in attendance were at an all-time high at the ShoWare Center, with 62,000 people in the arena watching the game. Perhaps it was because the Birds were just THAT determined to get as many wins in before the end of the season. The best news, though, is that now the Birds are another three points ahead for first place, further securing their spot ahead of the current tie between Spokane and Everett. Their current stats are 20-12-3-0 and they are looking great as 2016 approaches.
No goals were scored during the first period of the game. Seattle took it up a notch during the second period when Volcan, assisted by Neuls and Smith, scored against the Chiefs. The Chiefs took the second goal of the night during the third period, with Ka. Yamamoto, assisted by Elynuik and Fram, scoring. Kolesar scored the game winning shot, which was assisted by Volcan and Neuls, who both had a really strong night. New player Andreas Schumacher also had a strong introductory night with the Birds, and goalie Logan Flodell had a great night, saving every shot he took with one exception. It wasn’t the shutout that the Chiefs had over the weekend, but it sure was close.
Plenty of penalties were had during the exciting game, including roughing between Zwerger and Spo, high-sticking between Khaira and Sea and major fighting between both Watson and Sea as well as Bechtold and Spo. Most occurred during the second period.
The Birds only have one game against Spokane in the next 20 games they play, so it was nice to get such an intense victory on Tuesday. Sportscasters are saying that the Birds finally stopped over thinking their game and just played with their hearts to earn Tuesday’s victory, and that they will hopefully continue with this type of play into the New Year.
Today the Birds will be playing the Winterhawks. Tune in tomorrow for details about that game.
