I'd say Peterson and Elias, but if we do that, Chapman ate our financial cookies and we can't afford to get Iwakuma...so...our rotation is probably hosed...

Would love to have Chapman...would offer Peterson and #Montgomery and see if they bite.

Reply - Browns8625 - 11/20/15 6:41am

It's hard to imagine them bite for that, but worth a sgot. Chapman is premier

Follow @clarke_jeff on Tweeterville, for an IMMINENT AROLDIS CHAPMAN SWOOP oh yeah that's a done deal no doubts there

Andy Van Slyke must have decided he doesn't want to work in #Baseball any more. As Divish said. ... after you "normalize" the commentary for Van Slyke's red ears, there's some interesting shtick in there. But Divish himself did a good job "normalizing" it ...

Isn't the #11 draft pick the highest possible unprotected pick? :- )

We got #Montgomery because Erasmo was out of options last year and #Montgomery still had one. Now he apparently is out, so the game begins again to find #6/#7 starters that won't throw gas on a fire (remember Anthony Vasquez in 2011? Nice guy, but a flame-thrower in the bad sense - flat, straight 87 middle-in - 3.07 BB and 3.99 HR/9. Made 7 starts after Fister was traded.). I am thinking Nuno and Zych will initially go to Tacoma to be stretched out just in case because both have options. But Nuno will throw gophers, too. Good help (with options) is hard to find.

Wei-Yin Chen has a QO, so he would require loss of the #11 pick. No. For Price or Heyward, yes. But with Fister out there, with comparable upside, I'd take Doogie with the risk he'd flop (minimized in my mind by moving back to Safeco for 1/2 his starts) over a pitcher who is a decent #3 but not much more, but costs a long contract AND costs the (albeit 20%) chance at something nice as well as costing extra because the Yankees are interested. No thanks.

If we're not going to get 'Kuma, then I have no problem going for Wei-Yin Chen: <a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/chenwe02.shtml?utm_campaign=... target="_parent">http://www.baseball-...

Keeps his walks down. keeps it in the park, amazingly consistent. 4yrs/$52M...not too expensive. Could live with a 1 yr with option for Fister, too.

Thanks Rain. So the PTBNL was a significant player. Underlining the extent that DiPoto either (1) believes in Leonydas' bounce back or (2) absolutely had to have a marquee glove man.

Quick reminder: Flores was who we got back for ... the #2 pick in the ammy draft behind Strasburg. And absolutely a DiPoto style player. Shedding Ramon Flores? would be one #Whale of a LOOGY at the former regime's dial ... then again, nobody was more uncompromising about that than Jack Z. What goes around comes around. (All bets are off in Flores is a piece going out in a sincere trade.)

Vidal Nuno off the 25-man? Would agree he's currently the #2 LH behind a dubious-#Health Charlie Furbush. But he ain't in MY long-term plans. Gopheritis is unresolvable IMHO.

Mike #Montgomery being out of options was how we got him, right? Whereas we rostered David Rollins for a season in order to unload him? :- /

Big bullpen, behind this rotation, looks like a must. If you're going to go Felix and 6 young Cheney Carousel starters then yes. If you had Felix, Iwakuma, Price, and one of the kids looked stable then no. But this is a rotation that is going to be calling for BACKUP

Montero being gone to the first team needing a 1B ... guess is, he'll bring back less than Michael Pineda? But thanks for keeping us alert as to the 25-man roster / team option issues Bat

Wouldn't want to be Dodgers OF'er Scott Van Slyke after his dad dished dirt about Kershaw trying to get rid of Puig.

"In the third segment of his radio appearance, he started off by saying the Dodgers’ highest-paid player — inferring Clayton Kershaw — told L.A.’s general manager to get rid of Yasiel Puig."

So, on the one hand, it's refreshing when a #Baseball insider lets loose and talks about how he really feels. But, in this particular case, I think Divish has the right perspective on Cano's 2015 season and Van Slyke is being a bit of an idiot and a blowhard.

Sullivan, OMG: "Van Slyke was right that Cano was bad in the first half, and he was right that you can blend tequila with oatmeal".

Oh man - Divish with the full commentary:<a href="http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/mariners/former-mariners-coach-andy-v... target="_parent">http://www.seattleti...

Andy Van Slyke takes a dump on Cano: https://twitter.com/...

Haven't forgotten those UW Hoops comps Doc. Power outage and really busy today with work. Might be able to get some done after watching the guys on TV tonight :) Solid test against a small college tourney team last year. Always a treat when Calabro is announcing!

Bat... I was guessing one of the relievers who struggles throwing strikes like Rollins or Rasmussen but I like your C idea better.
However I now am questioning the Martin trade where before I was content

And, TR, it probably means it's one of the out-of-option guys or else Hicks or Baron, who are unlikely to get picked if they have to have a 25-man spot. Texas has been looking for C depth, so that makes sense.

I have not seen this discussed before but if repeat - my bad... But Shannon D says the PTBNL in the Martin deal will make the Rangers 40 man roster but since the Rangers do not have room now, the Mariners are holding on to him until after the Rule 5 draft

Yah, Moe, my bet is Flores goes in a trade, especially if Dipoto trades for a RF - his pitch can be here's a ready 4th OF with some upside. The Ms simply can't afford the 25-man spot if they still want to upgrade RF.

My bet? Flores stays. He's WAY too much a DiPoto template guy. And he has played some CF down on the farm (admittedly, it is unlikely he ever does it in the bigs). Played some 1B a while back, too. Hits LHP just fine (with a reverse split in '15) And he's dirt cheap. Anybody with the word on his injury recover? Should have been on the bike in October. He gets gobbled up in a hurry by someone. We might trade him, but i don't see us releasing him. He's 23, has been in the bigs, has a great eye, etc.

On the hard pencil 18+ players... Is Nuno left off on purpose?

Dipoto/Servais's comments about controlling the strike zone lead me to believe that Rollins, Jose Ramirez, Olmos, Guaipe, and Rasmussen are meat, if not in the next 30 hours to trim the 40-man for R5, then in trades over the next few weeks. Bullpenners who walk guys don't appear to be a popular flavor this year. Rollins may have the message and is limiting walks in the AFL, but the rest I see gone.
