Taro off to 10-0 start in 2011 SSI Smackdown

And, as you can see by the points column, Taro's won-loss record has been the result of a boatload of luck.

Taro lined up Miguel Cabrera, Carlos Santana and Shin-Soo Choo early enough in the draft, but his value picks have been more to the point:  SS Escobar, LF Michael Brantley, and CF Jacoby Ellsbury have given him heavy point-scorers at the bottom of his lineup.

He's been active both in the trade market and on the wire:  Mike Moustakas, for example, was a Taro-nator the moment he became eligible.

Taro's rotation?  Felix, Verlander, Lester, and Carrasco.  Remember this is a deeeeeep 12-team AL-only league.

Dr. D's Boyz II BABVA are running #3 in points.  I have absolutely no excuse and would never resort to any, except that my problems are created solely by horrible bad luck.

Boyz II BABVA swept the hitting on draft day, and made wise value choices at SP, which included:

  • Phil Hughes, NYY (60-day de facto DL)
  • Dallas Braden, Oak (6,000-day DL)
  • Jeff Neimann, TB (DL)
  • Francisco Liriano, Min (had NEGATIVE points after six weeks)
  • Erik Bedard, Sea (had negative points in April)

There you have it.  Had those first four pitchers posted anything like their 2010 seasons, I'd have crushed Taro like the bug he is.  But I don't believe in excuses.

Taro actually matched up with Boyz II BABVA this past week.  The result?  Taro 366, me 215.  Only one other team in the league, besides Taro, scored over 267.

Curse you, Red Baron.

Loopsterz is Rick, who published Caffeinated Confines, and he's running the next points total after Taro.

Raleigh Monkeys is Sandy ... O's is Justin ... Addicted M's is SABRMatt, who had a "welcome to the league, kid" season last time around, but who leads Dr. D in his second attempt at our little roto war.

Grand Salami was drafted by the good buddy who puts out that fine magazine, but I kid you not.... 15 days into the season they had no fewer than 12 draftees on the DL.  The red DL marks on his scorecard made it look like Calvin and Hobbes getting back a 12% score on a math test... GS has become a drone team, though thankfully they came onto the site a little while ago and straightened out the lineup a little.

In the six-year, 20-team mixed league that Justin invited me to, he and I are the only SSI/MC denizens... we're running 1 and 2 in that league.  He, of course, is 2.

I just traded Felix Hernandez for Albert Pujols in that league...

BABVA,

Dr D.

Doc, I think you have the best offense in the league. You were unlucky with pitching, although you drafted a lot of high-risk guys.. Btw, emailed you a trade offer. :-)

Lot of trades this season (I acquired and traded away a lot of those guys).  Some turned out well for both teams, some have ended up lopsided in either direction.
A little ironic that OKDAN may take me out this week with the players I traded him in the 1st trade in the league.
The 10-0 start is mostly luck.. Any team is capable of beating me in a given week with a good SP showing..

Taro's done a good job of dumpster diving the waiver wire, and trading what he's found there to some of the rest of us. He's the kind of guy who would enter a flea market with a paper clip, and leave with a Velvet Elvis.

...for some reason I was expecting a bigger reaction to the Pineda deal I just made...Carrasco and Moustakas (and an interesting surplus Sp/RP eligible starter) for Pineda should have garnered more interest from the league...either negative or positive...LOL I thought taro and I worked out a fairly clever deal there.
In any event...7-3 and playing Dr. D this week...I really want a win to bury Doc for good. :)

Although a very big trade, I viewed it as a pretty equal deal. No one *won* or *lost* this one as far as I can tell. Possibly a good move by both teams depending on need.

A missed chance to feather your cap even further, Doc. My two losses came on bad weeks against Taro and you.

Pineda makes the trade look a little lopsided, but we know they will limit his innings, so I figured it would even out.
