Site policies, redux

1.  Just got the admin keys and there are a boatload more functions, settings and options than there were at D-O-V.  Please bear with us :- )

...........

2.  My first attempted action, from my shiny new Space-shuttle-type switchboard, was to delete the exclusively-profane content from the one guy who came in with the F-bombs etc ... and this had the effect of nuking virtually the entire comments thread.  I don't think it was reversible, but am fairly confident (gulp) that it won't happen again.

My bad.  As you know from the years at D-O-V, our policy is to debate dissension, not suppress it.  Hence this clarification.

The technical incompetence was mine, as oldtimers here will realize going in, not that of the admins/programmers who provide us with such a stable, streamlined platform these days.

.............

3.  The couple of guys who came in with the language and hostility -- and had it up on the site for a day or two -- shouldn't have led anybody else to believe that now PG and PG-13 profanity is within guidelines.  It isn't.  :- )

We realize that nobody meant anything by it, but let's please return to zero profanity and to minimal accusations/personal criticism.   This means you, jemanji...

We went five months without any mod keys whatsoever and never needed any, so what does that tell you about the incredible MC/SSI crowd.  We went two days with visitors "getting away with" obnoxious profanity and personal attacks, but those two days be over.

..............

4.  As you know, not all tones and personal attacks are permitted, but all substantive ideas are permitted, analogously to the original intent of the U.S. Constitution.  ;- )

So the guidelines, and responses to violations to same, will revert to what they had been over the years at D-O-V.  Hope that's okay.  If not, please take a number.

..............

5.  Drive home safely.  You guyz da bomb.

Rock on,

Dr D
