Reality Check: David Pauley, $3 HQ, $3 SSI

=== David Pauley, $3 ===

Pauley mentioned here because he's the only other Rainier I see that is worth consideration (unless they're going to give Shawn Kelley a shot).  As Dennis Miller would say, I could be wrong.

.

THE BEARDED PROPHET:  Journeyman managed to survive his transition into the bigs, but his K's are "sub-tipping-point."  A "fifth starter in a big park" taco who is not rosterable in fantasy baseball.

.

The Mainframe Sez:  "Fifth starter in a big park" captures the essence of this taco very nicely, and that's rather a compliment to Pauley.

SSI is here "promoting" David Pauley ahead of French, Olson, White, RRS, Snell, and all of those guys who never should have been given one start, much less 8 to 20, as was the case.

Pauley is a guy who rises above AAA on the Ryan Franklin / Brian Holman basis:  he's got a legitimate four (4) pitches and he keeps his fastball count down.

Pauley has a ML-quality offspeed game, not to say that he's the Chiquita Banana in the Seattle tropics, but he's a guy who is not completely out of place on a big-league mound.

.

HQ has zero interest on the rotisserie level.  SSI commends the lad unto a 500-inning career as an ML swing man.  Insurance policy only, y'unnerstand.

SSI wouldn't bid even $1 on Garrett Olson, Luke French, Sean White, or Ryan Rowland-Smith; they'd have paid you -$5 to avoid the ex-Pirates who started off 2010 at the top of the rotation.

Pauley, though, we'll go the full $3 on.  He's liable to see some time in Safeco, and he should be okay.

.

Great photobucket by tjper, ain't it?  Looks like 3.49 standin' still.
