Offseason Getting Curiouser And Curiouser
Ohtani And Stanton Affecting Things Big Time

This is not an article but a stub for people to comment on the pace (or lack thereof) of the 2017 offseason, presumably because the Ohtani and Stanton situations must be resolved before teams can make pretty much any move at all.

I'm sure there are precedents, but I don't remember anything quite this quiet before. Of course, I don't remember what I thought five minutes ago.

So have at it, people. Open computer, insert text here. Le's help the good Doctor out!

Evertybody can not think they are in on  the Ohtani sweepstakes.  Something has to break the dam soon.

Darvish, JD Martinez and Hosmer might hang on for a while, as they may not get what they are asking for.  Arriata, too, I suppose.  But guys like Cain, Frazier, Santana, Lance Lynn, Cobb, Morrison and Chatwood, etc, aren't really dependant on the Ohtani/Stanton sweepstakes.

I would have thought that one of them had received an offer they were ready to jump on.  As well, Stanton and Ohtani don't establish relative value for other guys at all.  Stanton's cost per year is alrady established and Ohtani's is next to nothing.

I'm betting that in the next few days, we get a flurry of signings, as GM's get tired of wating and so do players.

But this is indeed weird.  A good thing is that we haven't heard any Jon Jay to the M's talk for a while.  I heartedly approve.

MLBTR...HOT BREAKING NEWS!!!

Didi Gregorious is suffering from a sever outbreak of dandruff.

Yesterday Jason Kipnis got a call from his grandmother.

You think it's been "crickets?" Byron Buxton's home town has been overrun by them.

Stay tuned for more BREAKING NEWS!

I thought Gregorious looked hobbled at the end of the season.  Now we know why!

Bruce...Benedict? I suppose a decidedly aged veteran backup catcher who can't hit fits the bill. He might be a bit long in the tooth, though. Now if we could pick up Dale Murphy I'd be all over it.

Daddy, back in ’83 Benedict came within abhit or two of hitting . 300:  .298-.385-.348.  (61 BB’s, only 24 K’s). You likely remember.  I said at the time he might have been the only guy ever to hit .300 and not bruise a ball or bend a blade of grass.

But Jay Bruce is a different deal.  Lifetime .824 vR.  .873 & .882 the past two seasons.  What does that sY about the Ohtani sweepstakes?

Yeah, I knew Matt was referring to Jay Bruce. I wuz just horsin' around.

Re: Benedict, yes indeed I do remember. He was slow as a slug, one of the slowest in the league, but he had a few decent years at the plate and one where he hit .298 but slugged just .348. Still he was a member of one of the Dodgers' NL West rivals, the Atlanta Braves. And it seemed like every year he came up against us in big situations a couple of times and got a big hit. A single, of course.

Bob Horner, Dale Murphy, Chris Chambliss, Glenn Hubbard, Rafael Ramirez. In 1982 a 43-year-old Phil Niekro won 17 games for the Braves. It was the early days of cable TV and Turner Broadcasting (TBS) needed sport programming for what was then called a superstation. There was TBS in Atlanta, and WGN in Chicago, which had the Ryne Sandberg Cubs. Those teams became well-known 'cause you could watch almost all their games anywhere in the country.

But couldn’t resist riffing on B.B.  I watched those Braves, sort of religiously.  My goodness, how I loved Murphy’s angular grace and Horner’s piston-like stroke.
