No Olympics for Morris
Plus details on Saturday’s match

Last week we had some great news regarding the Under-23 team. The draw the team experienced was great news in terms of moving forward toward Rio. Sadly, this week’s news was not as good—the Under-23 team will not be playing in the 2016 Olympic Games. Colombia will be advancing instead after beating the American team in a narrow victory of 2-1 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. This will be the second time in a row that the team will be missing the Olympic Games.

Seattle Sounders player Jordan Morris was a member of the team. Morris was able to log 62 minutes in the game but that was the extent of his involvement. He did not make a shot during the game. Jerome Kiesewetter replaced Morris in the game in the 62nd minute. The team did not have the best night; aside from losing the qualifier, they also accumulated two red cards during the match: Real Salt Lake midfielder Luis Gil received one for unsportsmanlike behavior in the 77th minute. Matt Miazga, a former New York Red Bulls defender, also received one. His was for a breakaway tackle in the 90th minute of the match.

Morris will be back on the Sounders team in time for Saturday’s match against the Montreal Impact, which will be at 7:00 PM. Will you be at the CenturyLink Field to see him play? Be sure to leave early as officials are expecting lots of heavy traffic prior to the match. There is a bunch of construction going on, including a scheduled closure of the east and west routes of SR-520 from 11:00 p.m. PT Friday to 2:00 p.m. PT Sunday, but the general traffic for the match will also be heavy. Just be sure to use the North and West Gates, since those will be the only ones open for the day.

Brad Evans and Joevin Jones will also be back and ready for the match. Both have recovered from their respective shoulder and knee injuries. Fans are rejoicing over the return of Evans, who has been out since the first match of the year.

The March to the Match  will start at the same time, beginning at Occidental Park. Later, at 5:30, you can get some food from the food truck from Sam Choy’s Poke.
