Birds Beat Pats
Final score 4-2

On Friday night, the Seattle Thunderbirds enjoyed a solid victory over the Regina Pats in a 4-2 win. The victory included three power plays and plenty of action to excite fans everywhere. Following their shutout earlier in the week, the victory has fans buzzing with expectation: are we on a roll? If so, are we about to beat the Silvertips for the number one regional spot again? If games like this continue, it is definitely a possibility.

Friday’s game at the ShoWare Center was a well-attended event, with 4,701 fans present to watch the big win. Landon Bow had another great night: although it wasn’t another shutout, he did save 35 out of 37 shots, enabling the Birds to work on a strong offense together to secure the game. Bow has been flying high since joining the Birds and we can only hope that his performance remains steady or even better as he becomes acclimated in the Seattle area. Bow’s record is now 4-0-0-0 with a .960 save percentage.

Keegan Kolesar took the first goal of the night with a power play after Ryan Gropp faked a shot and passed the puck to him. Matthew Barzal had the other assist on the play. The Pats tied the game during the second period with a goal from Luc Smith, who was assisted by Rykr Cole. Another power play later during the second period and the Birds were back in the lead. Gropp scored the goal while Matthew Barzal and Alexander True had the assists. Gropp scored yet another time during the same period with a hard wrist shot, with assists from Barzal and True again. During the third period, Donovan Neuls scored a goal, his fifth of the season, with assists from Ethan Bear and Turner Ottenbreit.

Even after the Pats replaced a goalkeeper and scored another goal by Sean Richards (with an assist from Chase Harrison) in the third period, the Birds still won the game. Fans took to social media with joy following the week’s second win, encouraging the boys to continue their efforts to get the team back in that first place spot.
