POTD John Jaso - Linkage

 ................

=== ::golfclap:: Dept. ===

Had a Tasmanian Devil weekend, by which I mean that my kids booted up Tasmanian Devil cartoons, saw Bugs Bunny and Road Runner cartoons pretty much for the first time ever, and by which I mean that today's 14-hour workday is the lightest in some time.

Saw in the right sidebar that the M's had traded for a catcher.  About 80-90% of the time, Dr. Detecto avoids reading other sites before cobbling together his side-shtick, in part so as to keep the shtick a little fresher.  This, however was one of the 10-20%'s.

Dr. D sat stunned as one blog-o-sphere article after another ripped the Jaso pitch off the deep left-center wall.

........

Dave Cameron opined that the M's "had just acquired Miguel Olivo's polar opposite."  What a tremendous capture of the deal, and the evident thought process, behind it.

Matthew at LL gave a Quick Report Card on Jaso's defense, and loaded it with important insight such as --- > Jaso doesn't throw out many runners, but notice that they don't run on him much.  Pitchers affect this too.  And don't think that these tables capture Joso as a defender.

WOW!  Dr. D is shortly going to be out of a job here, mateys.

Cameron came back with a "Family of Hitters" article that defines the SSI Level 101 Scan.  As you know, anything that imitates SSI is practically forced to be great from the very beginning.  He concluded, reasonably, that Jaso will provide the Mariners a 100 OPS+ type bat.

G-Moneyball, who has been banging his hardcover copy on the aluminum picnic table for Ticker-Tape Fanfare Prospect Yasmani Grandal, graced SSI with a post that declared Jaso nothing less than a (loose) comparable to Grandal.

There were other posts 'round the block too.  But this set hit for the cycle, not only triangulating Jaso, and giving an instant feel for the player we're talking about ... but also providing a TechniColor array of textures and flavors that made for a great read.

I dunno.  You think any other city woulda gotten the same?  Well done, lads.

=== Throwing Yourself Onto the Top of the Pile ===

Rather than feeling like Drew Brees, looking downfield into a nice airy target-rich environment, Dr. D goes into Beast Mode.  Six tacklers side-to-side and he needs two yards through the "gaps" ...

Generally, SSI's goal is twofold.  This time we need to swivel out into three heads .... the goals being

1 To provide a coherent, holistic and clear Thumbs Up or Down
2 To answer (or attack) Q's not yet asked
3* To sign off, or not, on editorials already published

In this case, the early-warning material is so strong that we'll offer a new feature:  The Kibitz.  We'll mix in our own $0.02 as to the consensus' soundness, or lack thereof, and offer our specific reasons for agreeing or not.

Those original authors lurking need take this as nothing other than a compliment.  Weak material gets glossed over.  Fascinating material gets moshed off of.
