"No respect"- Rodney Dangerfield used to say. Today, Tom Brady must find himself saying the same.
I never saw so many anti Tom Brady hate post after they lost their playoff game. Heck, I'm still seeing them weeks later.
I am not sure about you, but when I was growing up there were a lot more players loved than hated. At least in terms of the greats.
Maybe it's just an age thing...perhaps much of the nation in their 20s, 30s, and 40s hated MJ or Tiger Woods while I was cheering them on as a kid. Pre-cheating on his wife Tiger that is...do not get things confused.
These two stars in particular seemed to be loved by all... Had all tuning in each game, or tourney, they played in. Everyone wanted to be like Mike, and he and Tiger both had endorsers falling at their feet for a piece of the action.
I do not know a single person that was not a Bulls fan growing up. Yet somehow Tom Brady can no longer buy a Patriot fan, even with all that cash he and his model wife are raking in.
Is it the team in general and the success of the dynasties? I'd say yes, but I'm pretty sure everyone would have loved to see MJ win ten straight titles. Meanwhile, all hoped Tiger would win all the major tournaments.
It seems it is more generational. Perhaps everyone's new need to be an individual and go against the grain.
For more recent example, like Brady, look at Lebron James and the hate he gets on a daily basis.
Oh wait...some may be thinking. LEBRON, that's different...Bron is a diva or crybaby. Those same people would probably say the same about Tom Brady and his constant complaints to officials about calls made or missed.
However, noone was better known for getting all the calls than MJ. He could talk a ref into making a call as though he had stripes and a whistle on himself. As for Tiger...you ever see Tiger hook one well off course? Oh my back, my hip, my [ ]! Still, everyone came back for more
Whatever it is, I for one (thousand, million, billion people) am too very happy Tom Brady and the Pats did not move on... I just also know that I, or anyone I knew, could not say the same about the greats from yesteryear.
