So Mariners Prospect Talk is no more.
We'll see what the next step is (and perhaps necessity is the mother of invention), but, in the meantime, I'll be posting at spectometer.blogspot.com.
I have two up there so far.

I am very sad to hear this Spec... I really thought combining the two sites was a great idea... obviously not.

Hey amigos, howzit goin' ... if I might chime in a bit on the State of the M's Union?
1. The Klat folks are, as we've said a time or ten, very cool people to work with.
2. For my part, I regard Spec and Gordon as valued online friends and we broached the subject of their joining the Klat team. Spec happened to be first, Klat saw the value, and established a bee-yoo-tee-ful relationship. (Gordon has usually been in Lou mode, more recruited than showing much real interest in a formal situation with Klat.)
3. Internet writing gigs tend to run their course. Usually you measure them in terms of weeks, not years. For me, it's all been gravy ... since about 2011 :- )
4. Klat's budget decision surprised the stuffing out of me. But it's understandable (w/r/t myself AND Spec, that is). Not too many such budgets are etched in 10-year tablets. I've always proceeded on the basis that this month is liable to be the last one.
5. Spec will (undoubtedly) come out of this miles ahead, having used this gig as a stepping stone. (We've talked about e-books, a common subscription site, etc.)
6. I don't know where Dr. D's future stands with respect to Klat. Will know within a week or two. Guess is, that we'll wind up lookin' for work. Hey, I was lookin' for a job when I found this one :- )
7. For my part, I'm rooting for the Klat M's community to continue to grow -- whereupon we could combine a three-way Shtick Attack for 2014. (1) This rat cheer, (2) something with Spec and G, and (3) a WordPress premium site. The logisitcs have improved a lot since the rather hassle-laden days of Detectovision.com five years ago.
8. The online community at MC/SSI/DOV/Spectometer is the best in baseball, that I'm aware of. Whatever we do, we'll cater to the wishes of the community, as well as to Spec's plans.

there is no gainsaying your generosity with regard to this community. If it goes "poof!" we are all the better off for having had FREE access to it all this time. For that, I thank you.

I spend some time trying to get my 2nd book polished and published, and the whole world goes nuts. Gov't shuts down, Spec parachutes out at 20,000 feet, dogs and cats living together...
Sheesh. All right my people, 'splain some things I'll need to know for my always-intermittent blogging future and feel free to drop it in my email.
Spec, we'll still be doing rundowns on farmhands and plenty of back and forth this winter, wherever that happens to be.
Doc, same deal.
Just let me know where and how, if not here and soon.
We're having too much fun, even if the Mariners aren't always. Nobody breaks up the band, even if I'm just Ringo.

1. "Spectometer" went from zero page views to over 1000 in less than 24 hours, which is way more than I was bracing myself for -- so, again, thank you!
2. Yes, it was a Klat decision. I can't quibble with it (people are less interested in spending time thinking about the Mariners ... go figure). Maybe the question is why they were willing to pay for content and then give it away to everyone for as long as they did. Some business models survive and some don't.
3. Yes, I intend to keep doing this if we can figure it all out.
4. I have been spending the last four days researching what might happen next, and everything is encouraging. The technology to build what I think most folks here want to see appears to be available (and maybe wasn't just even a year ago). Your willingness to migrate to a site that didn't really exist last Friday is extremely heartening.
5. I'll be discussing things with Jeff and Gordon and others and keep folks posted.
6. In the long run, this could end up being all positive ... so stay tuned.
