Beavan is looking so broken right now that he can't even get AAA hitters out. Maybe he needs to learn to throw the knuckler to salvage his career, or go back to the beginning when he had a mid-90s fastball. That was before he started aiming it slower and over the middle of the plate, or the downward plane business this season.
I'll do a separate news thread later with All-Star stuff and other items.
AAA -- Reno 4, Tacoma 0 -- Box
Blake Beavan came back from the Big Club and got the final start before the AAA All-Star break. He gave up 10 hits, but eight of them were singles: 5.0 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K.
But that gave the Aces a lot more offense than Tacoma got. The Rainiers got just five hits, and a double by Abraham Almonte (26intheMix) was the only one that went for extra bases.
High-A -- High Desert 8, Stockton 2 -- Box
The Mavericks were able to put together their share of offense at least.
Daniel Paolini (Talk40 #26) had a double, a single and his 53rd walk (vs. 49 strikeouts).
Both Kevin Rivers and Patrick Kivlehan (Talk40 #33) provided doubles, plus two singles each.
And good outings from the mound for Robert Shore (26intheMix) (5.0 IP, 2 ER, 5 K); George Mieses (26intheMix) (2.0 IP, 0 R); and David Colvin (Watch List) (2.0 IP, 0 R, 4 K).
Low-A -- Clinton 6, South Bend 2 -- Box
Marcus Littlewood (Talk40 #37) got his third home run, plus added two walks.
Dario Pizzano (26intheMix) delivered his 25th double, plus a single, and Timmy Lopes (Talk40 #20) had two hits. Lopes is hitting .400 for July.
And it was a strange outing for Lopes' fellow Teen Titan, Tyler Pike (Talk40 #14): 6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 2 K. Pike's ERA has stayed super-low, but his problem with walks has been growing.
Short Season-A -- Everett 5, Eugene 4 -- Box
Christian Carmichael (Watch List) got the go-ahead RBI with a single in the 9th.
James Zamarripa (Watch List) had two singles, a walk and two stolen bases.
Lars Huijer was bumped by Andrew Carraway (Watch List), one of handful of players at Everett to avoid inaction during the various All-Star breaks. Carraway: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. Huijer pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
No D.J. Peterson since July 11. Not sure what's up with that.
Rookie -- Bluefield 9, Pulaski 2 -- Box
Jesus Ugueto had three hits, but otherwise there was not much to report.
Looking Ahead
The upper minors are on All-Star breaks, but the lower minors will feature Eddie Campbell for Pulaski, fresh off his 10-strikeout performance, and Charles Kaalekahi (26intheMix) for Clinton.
