=== Cocking Action ===
To accelerate the baseball, Paxton does two things simultaneously. He:
- Sinks down into a deep single-leg squat thrust, while
- Angling his shoulders back towards the CF
Connecting the shoulders with the CF is a classic Japanese dynamic -- M's fans will remember Kazuhiro Sasaki as the poster child, here.
The benefit is that the entire shoulder, chest, and back area -- not just the arm -- will be accelerating the baseball.
.........
Really, you could think of that shoulder tilt as being Paxton's true windup trigger. That is where he begins to gather energy. It's an unorthodox trigger, and a great one.
.........
In the picture below, Paxton almost echoes the famous Sidd Finch image.
In which the artist was intuitively conveying the ideas of effortlessness, of springy coiled energy and of harmonic focus toward the target.
We will need to specify for LrKrBoi29 that we don't think Paxton can throw 163 mph.
.........
As Paxton sinks deeper into his squat thrust -- compare the same picture in the D-O-V article on Tim Lincecum; Lincecum dipped no deeper --
-- Paxton splays the other three limbs as far as they can be splayed.
a longer arc would always be preferable. See DrMikeMarshall.com for more details.
............
Whereas Lincecum turns his back to the hitter -- to get more rotation and more leverage -- Paxton rotates almost not at all. Creating more compactness and better command / location.
