Ohtani-mania: San Diego playing the Long Game

So everyone's writing everything Shohei Ohtani, and with good reason. This guy has invigorated baseball in a way I've not seen in my 36 years of life (granted, only twenty of those were spent paying any meaningful attention to baseball...), and the situation surrounding him is (superlative of your choice) fascinating.

It's probably unsurprising to discover that I, too, am going to write about Shohei Ohtani. Why? Because he's interesting, and because he's made me think about baseball again. For that, he (and his representation, if I'm being cynical) has my gratitude.

The Crystal Ship (Mariners Version)

One of my favorite 60's songs is a haunting track from The Doors' self-titled first album that resounded like a thunderclap in 1967. The track was entitled "The Crystal Ship," and somehow after reading this morning that the M's had lost again in their reverse-direction Wild Card "chase" my mind turned to the opening lyrics to the song, "Before you slip into unconsciousness..."

(Here's a YouTube link to the track in case you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU1sLx1tjPY)

Nice Matt, never stop caring! I'm still as excited for #Baseball season and the M's as I was as a little kid and teenager. Always a wonderful time of year gearing up for a new season. Even the non-winning teams give us a little something to savor. Just hearing Rizzs on the radio is a treat (under-rated guy in my #Book). We only get to enjoy so many of these before we are gone, make the most of each one!

Hard to hit with a hernia. Nice game so far today. I dunno how much #Baseball I'm gonna watch this year - the Mariners have killed a bit of my #Baseball joy these last 15 years - but so far the important guys look pretty fine. Guti always looks like he's going to do great things, up until he takes 4 months off because he has something akin to Rocco Baldelli Disease. We'll see. Right now I just don't care.
