Dr. D DOES bring up James Paxton and Danny Hultzen.  The cost is $4M each, long term, because of Super Two.  Staring down the barrel of a summerful of 8,000 attendances, he spends this money.

You guys is awesome, but if you think there is any kind of "pecking order" in which Andrew Carraway (or even Erasmo Ramirez) reside along with Paxton and Hultzen, you hallucinatin', Simon.  Like the Mariners are going to evaluate Carraway against Paxton to decide which one will stake the M's future?

Paxton's throwing 96 MPH now.  In two years, he might not be, much less in seven years.

Fans want to see looooonnnnnnng strings of PERFECT performances from their blue chippers, and then maybe in two months we'll bring them up.... nay verily.  As Lou used to say, players can learn in the big leagues.  You're not getting perfection now from the certified MLB(TM) pitchers you've got.

Paxton and Hultzen have had hiccups.  The scouts -- not me -- are unanimous wherever we hear them:  it's because they're bored and under-challenged.  It does nobody any good to put a 19-year-old Kevin Durant out there against college players.  He's not going to get better until he's going against people who can kick his keister.  

Who said that Paxton and Hultzen can't have a disappointing 2012 partial season?  As James says, the best (and only) place to learn to play major league baseball is in the major leagues.

And you think a minor-league ump is going to call Paxton's hammer a strike?  There are major-league umps who can't see a Bedard-level curve ball.

You can put two of the Big Three in the bullpen for a month.  ::shrug:: whatever.

Dr. D DOES NOT restore Miguel Olivo to his starting duties.  Rather, he stops with the MLB(TM) shtick that tells Montero he's got to catch like Olivo does.  Montero has not proven that he's a 10-year veteran, but he has proven that he can catch.  You bear with him, like the Giants did with Posey, like all the other clubs do with their megastar rookie catchers.

If Jaso has to catch more, fine.

As the "sample size" (ugh) builds, sure, you see that Montero's a work in progress.  You also see that his CERA, and Jaso's, are lower than Olivo's.  Dr. D has had enough of Veteran Presence(TM) considering that it is .149 Batting Rally-Killing Veteran Presence (TM).

Dr. D DOES put Erasmo Ramirez in the rotation, shedding Millwood immediately from the roster.  He sheds 4K Beavan and Hector Noesi off the rotation.

As the AA guys say, half measures availed us nothing.  Gently phased approaches, such as benching Chone Figgins as our May move, have not addressed the core problemo:  that the Mariners are not deploying their 25 best baseball players.  Deploy those 25 and then, even if you lose, you don't have to feel like you have a gut full of pus, Clint.
