PTI: Third Base for 1H-2012 (8)

 ....

Q M-Pops:  Bring Back Bedard!

PTI Jemanji:  Speaking of thread continuity ... I can think of no idea I'd rather see in a Liddi-Seager thread, can you?  But we promised to interrupt every single idea in Malcontent's fine thread, and in this household we keep our promises, young lady.

........

The sportswriters can't stand the thought, but at an incentive deal ... what exactly is the downside for us, the Mariner fan?  If Bedard is injured half the year and doesn't get paid, so what?

Chris Chambliss, he of six Yankee rings, said that the 1H 2011 was the best rotation he had ever seen, absolutely the best.  You ax Dr. D, he thinks that Erik Bedard can pitch in his #5 SP slot any time...

When on the mound, Bedard was indisputably one of the AL's 15 best pitchers in 2011.  And that was saying a lot.

........

It looks 100% doable.  Erikkk was skittish about the East Coast to begin with -- and as Patrick Swayze could tell you (Point Break), your worst nightmares sometimes become reality...

Erikkk obviously loved, loved, loved the way the Seattle Mariners treated him.  It could be that the Bedard acquisition is virtually Zduriencik's to shot-call.

........

3B segue:  Bedard is a groundball pitcher and if he, Vargas, and Paxton were in the same rotation, you'd want a good glove at 3B.

I think if it's my team, and two GB lefties (Paxton, Bedard) are in the rotation, then Seager isn't my fulltime 3B.  He just doesn't have the reflexes.  ... Vargas and either one of those guys makes it iffy.  All three makes it pretty clear.

.

Q Dr. D:  What is the bottom line?  Where does 3B stand in October 2011?

PTI Jemanji:  Proliferation of options.  A delicious place to be, not only from a Game Theory standpoint, but also from a blog standpoint :- )

I'm warming to Liddi 3B, Seager/Ryan SS, with Nick Franklin lurking ominously ... and the $$$ spent elsewhere.  Ask next week and it will be different.

......

Did it occur that each of the 25 replies to Malcontent's thread --- > provided a gymnast's springboard into the sawhorse --- > enabling a different faceplant by Dr. D?

Not yer ordinary neighborhood quip-and-slip baseball site ; - )

.

::whew::,

Dr D
