All D.J., Alla Time
Two ML-ready thumpers Enter, one man Leaves

.

The screen name "Spectator" is becoming a bit of a joke.  The "Participant" or "Partaker" or "Protagonist" or whatever he is continues to embarrass Dr. D with ever-more-bubbly elevations of the shtick.

Partaker terms these, feebly, "Enhanced GIFs" of D.J. and Taijuan.  Enhanced?  Get that out of the paint.  Wonderful GIFs?  Maybe.  Stunning GIFs?  No question.  Riveting GIFs?  Okay.  Enhanced?  Does Felix have an enhanced changeup?  'ts a backhand compliment.

The "Tee Mobile" color adds to the fun.  And the emphasis is clear:  The camera man could get Capt. Kirk to step behind Spock, before he could throw a fastball over the top of D.J. Peterson's bat.

....

Gordon followed on, in hot pursuit, treating us to his fave Edgar comp:

nnings in AAA takes less out of your arm.  It certainly does not.  The problem is that 5-and-dive is okay in the minors, but it isn't in the AL.  The problem is that skipping turns in the rotation, for some reason, has gone out of fashion in the big leagues.

The problem is that if you're in a big league rotation, then 35 innings every month is presumed to be your quota, or you're fouling up the big league club.  Why should that be the presumption?  There is no reason at all.  Used to be, they had "spot starters."  Used to be, four-five relievers (total) could cover for the guys who got K.O.'ed in the third inning.  It is the shibboleth of "give us 7 IP every time or you blow a hole in our bullpen" that will keep Hultzen down, not the idea that a AAA fastball is easier to throw than a Safeco fastball.

That said, this stuff about "Keep Hultzen in AAA to protect him," it is simply naive.  Put him on the Sounders if you want to protect him, not on the Tacoma Rainiers.  That doesn't protect him.

..........

I was thinking it, but G said it first.  Tacoma's lineup will be awfully interesting:

  • The SS loser
  • Ketel Marte (does have a snake-tongue bat launch, I gotta admit)
  • Jesus Montero (probably would hit .300 in the American League this year)
  • D.J. Peterson
  • Patrick Kivlehan
  • Roenis Elias (?)
  • Danny Hultzen
  • etc

In other words, on the days Elias / Hultzen start, you've got a weak MAJOR league team that is barnstorming the minors.

I'll be there,

Dr D
