The sad state of chicken in America

It's a joke to say that something "tastes like chicken." But these days, I don't know if you have noticed, but even chicken doesn't taste like chicken anymore. Either that, or it tastes way too much like chicken. At the same time, it's starting to seem like white meat and dark meat chicken both taste the same, and they both taste bland.

Toddler flashcard apps for iPhone

If you're a parent with technologically-savvy kids, you know it can be difficult to balance fun and education when it comes to your child's favorite devices. There's nothing wrong with a game or app that's sole function is to be fun, but some of your child's time would ideally be spent learning. I'm always on the lookout for educational apps that are also toddler-friendly. Many of them are geared toward children of preschool age though and are too difficult for him at this stage. In my quest for a flashcard app to help him increase his vocabulary, I found these three and tried them all.

Think It Over Thursday: Thoughts on childism

Even as I type the word, it is underlined as if it does not exist. Yet childism is prevalent in our culture. We have a world that is stacked against children the moment they are born, rendering them the “property” of parents who can do whatever they want with them. Sure, we have a few laws to prevent some of the strongest cruelties toward children, but spanking is perfectly legal.

Health organization hands out endangered species condoms

A health organization gave out 15,000 endangered species condoms on Earth Day in an effort to gain attention to planetary overpopulation. The Center for Biological Diversity packed up the prophylactics and headed out to more than 20 Earth Day events to hand out to people in an awkward example of environmental conservation.

The people you encounter and become

Growing up is a strange process. In fact, it has to be one of the strangest things we experience on this earth. One minute we are rambunctious children running around wild in our neighborhoods with no worries. We play in dirt, eat bugs (maybe grass, who knows?) and basically wreak havoc around our stomping grounds. Then, before we know it, society decides we need to be in school. After 12 years, plus another four for university, the world decides it is time for us to be adults and contribute to society.

Rocky Mountain Gray Wolf population drops after release endangered list

When an animal is taken off the endangered species list because its population has risen to a healthy level, it’s considered a win for the environment. It shows that conservation methods are working and that the system actually work. What happens do those animals once the protection is lifted?

The Rocky Mountain Gray Wolf is present in several states, including Montana, Wyoming and Ohio. The populations had grown so much that the animals were taken off the endangered species list in 2012. This meant that the individual states could now decree that they animals could be hunted.
