The strange face of Chinese diplomacy

Being that China seems to always be at odds with their neighbors, particularly when it comes to territory disputes, it is a strange thing when you hear about them trying their hands at creating peace in the world.  In their latest attempt to come across as good peace-keepers, the government of China has stepped into the middle of the Israel-Palestine conflict.  And though the end result may prove to be far less than one could hope, it does have the definitive effect of the country announcing itself as a player in the Middle East

Israel hates on Google for acknowledging Palestine

The continuing struggle between the country of Israel and the now-recognized state of Palestine has taken a new turn this last week when the folks over at Google decided to change their Palestinian home page to more accurately represent the region’s current status.  Previously, the home page was labeled with “PalestinianTerritories,” the status that has existed for many decades.

Choosing sides in Syria

The conflict in Syria has been going on for more than two years now and still the nations of the world have yet to come to any sort of decision regarding involvement in the civil war.  Though almost all universally agree that President Bashar Assad should end his regime and try to work out some sort of compromise with the rebels for a new government, how to go about this is the main issue.

Israel and Palestine resume clash again

Though a cease-fire was called between the people of Israel and Palestine at the end of last year, it was only a matter of time before something set someone off and the conflict resumed.  It is a seemingly endless war, sparked decades ago by the colonization of Palestinian lands by Israeli forces. Authors who were prophets?

Sometimes authors become prophets of events yet to come. Morgan Robertson, an Edwardian-era author, penned a novella in 1898 entitled Futility in which an ocean liner eerily similar to the Titanic hits an iceberg and sinks. Though the plot itself did not resemble what happened on April 14-15, 1912, the similarities between the demise of the two ships is still striking.

Touring religious origins

Religious tourism, contrary to what the term may imply, is far from being reserved to those who are of a religious bent.  In fact, many of the great sites of the various world religions are also amazing sites to see for those of us that lead a more secular life.  While the majority of those visiting will certainly be of the related belief system, there’s no reason that the rest of us can’t visit as well.
