I'm happy to report that after a long wait, I've finally seen Steven Soderbergh's latest (and possibly final) film, Side Effects. We just left the theater less than an hour ago and I rushed home to write this, because I don't want to lose the momentum. I love writing with a post-great movie buzz, and that's exactly what I've got right now.

I wrote up a retrospective earlier this week about Obama's accomplishments during his first term where I agreed with Paul Krugman that Obama did a lot of great things and that while he may not have pleased everyone on the Left, what he did is still pretty impressive.
If you remember, Obama spent much of the first year of his first term securing money to bail out banks and industries, essentially making sure the entire country didn't go the way of Lehman Brothers. Well, check.
After the recent horrific shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, guns and gun control have been on the tip of the national tongue. Obama called for VP Joe Biden to deliver suggestions for national gun control laws, Texas and Wyoming introduced state legislation to ignore whatever Washington comes up with, and the topic has been the subject of rapid fire debate on social media and talk shows. When President Obama tasked VP Joe Biden to come up with suggestions for new national laws, asking him to have them ready in a month sounded like fast turnaround.
Last month we all watched in horror as news media descended on Newtown, Connecticut to cover yet another tragic school shooting. The photos were graphic, the pain was real, and the coverage was relentless.
