Review: Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Once again, J.J. Abrams takes us into the world of Star Trek, the world that he has, courtesy of a time-space device, completely rebooted.  This time around, it’s Star Trek Into Darkness a movie that many Trekkies are going to have some mixed feelings about.  Me, I thought it was better than the first one and probably the best Star Trek film since Wrath of Khan.  Warning, to read on it to experience spoilers, including the “big one” that they’ve been trying to keep secret for no good reason.

Is there anything Jennifer Lawrence can't do?

I'm a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan. I became one the instant I watched her riveting, gut-wrenchingly amazing performance in Winter's Bone. I was impressed with her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. Then, I went completely bonkers for her after seeing her Oscar-winning performance as Tiffany in The Silver Linings Playbook.

Would you go see a Grumpy Cat movie?

I'm going to tell you right now that Grumpy Cat is my favorite meme of all time. Nothing makes me happier than seeing photos of the most famous sour puss on the planet. Even now, long after Grumpy Cat's 15 minutes of fame have ended, I find myself looking at photos of Tardar Sauce, smiling. I even follow a Grumpy Cat Twitter account. Yeah, I know, I have some issues. I can't help it. And I'm not alone, I know I'm not: Grumpy Cat continues to be a phenomenon. The cat has an agent, for goodness sake!

New on DVD: 'Beautiful Creatures'

If you're a fan of the Beautiful Creatures series of young adult novels (also known as the Caster Chronicles), it's quite possible you've already seen the movie adaptation. If not, prepare yourself, because Beautiful Creatures is new on DVD and what you get is not entirely what you got in the book. A lot of changes were made to adapt this best-selling YA book for the big screen, and not all of them were good changes.

Memorial Day Weekend blockbuster madness is in full swing

Ah, it's Memorial Day weekend, and while for many of us that means taking time to remember the brave men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Military, it also marks the unofficial kickoff of the summer season, too. Oh, and also? It means another Hangover movie opening. Yes, this time two years ago we were all flocking to theaters to see The Hangover Part II. Will this year be any different?

Another honor for one of the funniest men in film: Mel Brooks

I'm a huge Mel Brooks movie fan. Whenever I'm having a rough day, I either turn to a Mel Brooks movie or a Monty Python film to lift my spirits. It works, almost every single time. Oh, sure, some might tell you that Brooks' movies are just silly, and you know what I say to that? Exactly! That's the whole point. Sheesh, some people really need to lighten up a bit.
