Japan’s Edelstein Cafe

The Western world is filled with themed restaurants, bars, cafes and the like, though most of them decidedly cater to the male crowd and usually their sales point involves an all-female staff dressed in minimal or provocative clothing.  Japan is no different, with its fair share of schoolgirl themes, hostess clubs and others.  But one fetish that is present in Japan that I have yet to see in the West is that of Yaoi.  The Edelstein Café, located in Harajuku, is one such club.

The "YOLO flip" has been landed

Believe it or not, even when Shawn White isn't in the competition, snowboarding does exist. In fact, there is a lot of competition out there, and while White may dominate the half-pipe year in, year out at the X Games Aspen, the other stops on the X Games tour still boast world class competitions. The men’s half-pipe competition at the X Games stop in Tignes, France is definitely one to watch.

The mining ghost town of Matsuo, Japan

Here’s another article for those that enjoy ghost towns and urban exploring.  It’s a little town by the name of Matsuo, located in northern Japan.  Once this area was prosperous and the town housed a population of around 15,000 people.  For the last 40 years, however, not a soul has lived here, leaving the abandoned remains of several apartment buildings.

Urban exploration: A different sort of adventure

Urban exploration, often referred to as urban spelunking, is a trend that’s captured the attention of many of the more adventurous travelers around the world.  The idea of finding some of the forgotten places of both modern and historical times is one that appeals to the part of us that wanted to be Indiana Jones when we were a kid.  There are many locations to be found both in our own backyards and across the cities of the world that hold hidden treasures.

The Eight Hells of Beppu, Japan

The country of Japan is a place of many beautiful landscapes, from mountain ranges to colorful gardens. One feature that this actively volcanic set of islands has in abundance is hot springs.  For visitors in the southwestern region of Kyushu, there is a series of hot springs known as the Eight Hells of Beppu that demonstrate some of the best examples of this phenomenon.  Each spring is named for its appearance and has a beauty that is unique to it.
