Weekly Medley: Violence as a family tradition

Did you know that violence against children is twice the rate of spousal abuse—and that does not include spanking? Children die every day at the hands of their own care givers. I learned these facts and more startling information, including the long-term health problems due to violence, in early childhood in this TED Talk that my friend S. shared with me. Please watch it and share it with your fellow parents. Bennett also shares some great ways to help kids self-regulate without punishment.

Mosh Pit - Feb 14, part 3

.

I/O:  [Where do you think Paxton starts, AAA or starting rotation?]   probably the rotation, especially with Iwakuma likely to miss a few starts

CRUNCH:  Had everybody else been talking about this, and I just missed the memo?

Hisashi Iwakuma missing two starts, that like hands us K-Pax and Taijuan on a silver platter, right?  Meaning that Iwakuma's injury is the greatest thing in the history of Mariner baseball.

Can't believe that something so obvious, sat there unnoticed.  Hey, before Iwakuma's injury, the odds of us getting both kids for the rotation were probably 20%, 30%.  Now it feels more like 80%, 90%.

Pending the import of a an MLB(TM) 15-game winner, which would also be quite pleasant.

I/O:  [Hart and Logan Morrison both have lost 25 (!!) pounds each]

Take Action Thursday: Stop honor killings

It’s been months since I’ve offered a take action day. Normally I do these on Tuesdays, but the recipes (Tasty Tuesdays) seem to be much more popular so I started doing those more often instead. Today, however, I saw a few petitions going around that I really wanted to share. Let me know if you like Take Action days and I’ll incorporate them more often.

Making green juice

I have heard about green juice over and over again, and I’ve always said I would try it, but I had no idea it would actually be delicious. The trick, if you don’t like seeing green juice and being reminded that there is, in fact, spinach in your cup, is to drink it out of an opaque container so you can’t see it in the first place.
