Prague, Czech Republic

With a very long history behind it, Prague is a city that has managed to survive the test of time to become one of the most beautiful urban places in the world.  For couples that want to experience the culture of the CzechRepublic, there is no place better.  See all the amazing architecture and historic sites, including a city center that remains much as it was back in the medieval era.  Explore one of the largest castles in the world, peruse museums and art galleries or h

Chabad Shelanu Restaurant

Located within the beautiful city of Prague, Chabad Shelanu is a great kosher option for date night.  It is also considered by many to be the best kosher restaurant in Prague and given that it’s in the middle of the Jewish Quarter, that’s no mean feat.  Not only are the prices reasonable, but the quality of food is such that you might expect to pay a lot more for it.  If you’re a Prague local or just passing through, this is an excellent and casual option for a night out.  Has anyone eaten at Chabad Shelanu before?

Eight Strange and Wonderful Statues from around the World

Ever since man’s predecessors figured out that they can use one stone to make holes in another, there have been statues and carvings.  As time and technology progressed, these creative endeavors became larger and more elaborate.  Most of the earliest examples of statues revolve around religious motivations, though there are plenty of different reasons for people to create art.  Statues have been erected to commemorate famous people, to convey legends and folklore, to show devotion to one religious belief or another and to demonstrate the spirit of a country or other cultural center.  Some of these have turned out grand and hold a place as remarkable artistic efforts.  Others, particularly modern ones, are more bizarre peculiarities than anything else.  Here, I’ve collected eight interesting statues from around the world, running the gambit from monumental to just plain insane.

The Czech Republic’s Church of Bones

This week I present yet another travel destination for those that enjoy their vacations with a slightly morbid touch.  This time around, it’s the Sedlec Ossuary, also known as the Church of Bones, a unique Roman Catholic church located in Sedlec, the Czech Republic.  About an hour outside of the capital of Prague, this strange and interesting church is decorated with the remains of more than 40,000 human beings.

World Roma Festival Khamoro

Roma, or Romani, are a people who have been around throughout the centuries.  They have no country to call their own and traditionally wandered from place to place, yet they are still united.  Some call them gypsies and others have names for the Roma that are much less attractive.  Over the years and into modern times they’ve been subject to racism and discrimination the likes of which few people have been forced to suffer.  The Roma live in many places around Europe and nowadays call many countries their home, but still their culture is as misunderstood as it ever was.
