Sun, sand and pro surfing

Sometimes, a little bit of planning can go a long way while traveling. An early purchase of a flight, rental car, or hotel can save some cash, and having an itinerary can mean maximizing the fun. Having your days planned out, a compass (metaphorically) pointing north and a destination is something some people need. For many backpackers, and myself, the idea of making a plan beyond what you are doing in the now is absolutely ludicrous. Plans come and go, and normally, this is the result of finding great things to do along the way.

Subsequently, every few years has seen our beloved systems replaced by a newer and better generation. Some people in the world are less inclined to stop off and look at the “normal” touristy spots when they’re out there on vacation. The sheer number of bizarre roadside attractions is proof of this. While surfing about on the Internet, I came across one of these strange and unusual locations that might entice a few readers to take a few minutes out of their standard across-the-U.S. tour. It’s called Subtropolis and it is, at 55-million square feet, the world’s largest underground business complex.

Climate change in daily life?

One of my favorite debates when it comes to talking about the environment at the bar is the difference between weather and climate. A hot 100 degree day in San Francisco would be erratic weather, not necessarily indicative of a larger, deeper change in the climate of the city. Climate is a description of the prevailing weather conditions over a long period of time. Weather is whatever is happening at a given moment.

Can playoff turnovers cost him his legacy?

I was as shocked as the next NFL fan when I saw the Broncos fall on January 12 to the Baltimore Ravens. The Broncos, who were riding a win streak from way back in November, were favored not only to destroy the Ravens, but to win the Super Bowl. They had turned their shaky start into a playoff birth, an AFC West win, and also a first round bye. But, as quickly as a team can turn their season around in the NFL, they can also see it wither away. That is the fate of the Denver Broncos, who once again lost in the second round of the NFL playoffs.

Did you know that many crops are insured by the federal government? That means that if, for example, soy farmers don't get a good crop during a particular year, the government pays them insurance money to make sure that they are able to stay solvent and farm that same soy the following year.

Southern Thailand has some interesting aspects to it. Though quite beautiful, most places in this area are far from off the beaten path, and see a lot of negativity from tourists and those in the industry. The other kicker is that during high season, along with cooler weather comes higher prices and more of said tourists and negativity. Alas, sometimes the calendar is against us, and we end up in Southern Thailand during the high season.
