Explore Austin’s Film Festival Scene

For lovers of film, there are few better ways to spend time with the one you love than to enjoy one of Austin’s film festivals. No matter what your taste in movies happens to be, there’s likely something that will please both you and your someone special. By far the biggest and the best is SXSW, a veritable buffet of movies as well as music and other media that takes place in March. Or if sci-fi and cult movies are your thing, check out Septembers’ Fantastic Fest.

Single in St. Louis

St. Louis is one of those cities which sometimes seems more like a collection of independent neighborhoods than a cohesive city. This can make it tough to find someone, if your local selection is limited, and many people are reluctant to date outside their neighborhood. And once you find someone, there is the challenge of trying to find a place nearby that will be great for date night.

Here are three St. Louis restaurants that are worth the extra drive:

Dating and the Minneapolis Theater Scene

Attending the theater is a classic dating event that is probably not as popular as it once was. Still, if you and your loved one are fans of stage performance, the city of Minneapolis has more than a few excellent options as far as venues go. No matter what your tastes, you’ll likely find something that pleases you both. Luckily, there are several amazing venues located conveniently in the heart of the city. The Pantages Theatre, the Orpheum Theatre and the State Theatre are all within short walking distance of each other.

Dating and the Nashville Performing Arts Scene

If you and your loved one are lovers of performing arts, Nashville has plenty for you to check out. Whether your preference is something more traditional, like theater or opera, or more experimental, there are many options to choose from. The Tennessee Performing Arts Center is one great place to check out. They offer two venues and present everything from theater to opera and ballet. With a busy schedule of events, it’s easy to find something going on there that you’ll likely enjoy. For lovers of independent film, try a trip to Belcourt Theatre.

Italy's tradition of "caffe sospeso"

In America, we have this thing at Starbucks where sometimes someone pays for the coffee of the person in line behind them. The person in line behind them is so surprised and grateful that they take the money they were going to spend on their own coffee, and use it to buy the coffee of the person in line behind them. The whole thing continues until some person breaks the chain, and everyone kind of hates them for being the selfish jerk.

Keeping Up With the Industry News

Most of the news out there that concerns the evolution and progress of the various media formats we all know and love is going to come to us via the power of news sites.  It’s simply easier for Internet journalists to get off the mark quickly when something breaks and they want to let the world know (and want to make a buck or two by being one of the first to break it).  But sometimes filtering through all that text can be a huge pain in the butt.  So we find ourselves scanning titles to see what the gist of the news is and then, perhaps, if we have a few extra seconds, giving a once-over on the articles themselves.  Heck, if it’s something we’re really interested in, we might even read the entire thing.  Luckily, the miracle of the Internet has made it easy for us to get caught up on geek-centric news without necessarily having to click through tons of print-based media sites.
