Requiem for King of the Hill

King of the Hill had its origins in a sort of running "LOLREDNECKS" joke in Beavis & Butthead, but it became so much more. Hank Hill was the aggressive redneck neighbor who was often frustrated at Beavis and Butthead's idiocy. Can you blame him? The show meant for the audience to laugh at Hank, but I think a lot of people could probably see where he was coming from.

Zombies and Hamburgers

Zombies are all the mainstream rage in Western culture, so naturally it was only a matter of time before people began to take advantage of that.  I've already said my two cents about the zombie dating site.  And the proliferation of zombie survival training courses boggles the mind.  But one thing that had been overlooked for some time is a zombie-themed restaurant.  Well, look no further than Des Moines, Iowa and the Zombie Burge + Drink Lab eating/drinking establishment.

A social network strictly for beer snobs

Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed when trying to delve into the world of craft beers? Sure, you have friends who are totally knowledgeable, and even though you don’t know the first thing about beer, they are happy to help you out with little to no trash talking. Is that enough, though? How do you become one of those loud mouth, suds-guzzling, beer snobs yourself? Look no further than The Beer Fridge (TBF).

It isn't summer without shave ice

Shave Ice. No, I did not mis-type that, it's not "shaved ice," it's shave ice. Every area of the world has regional food specialties that, even in today's Internet-connected world, most of the rest of the world hasn't heard of. I'm heading to Hawaii in a few weeks, and one of my favorite things to get there that I have never seen anywhere else in the world is this treat.

Super Bowl Takeout

Super Bowl Sunday is potentially my favorite secular holiday. I grew up in the midwest where most of our Sundays were spent at church in the morning and watching football in the afternoon, so there is a very real connection for me between ceremony and football.

These are my suggestions for creative things you can order if you're hosting or will be at home for the Super Bowl this year.

Drink beer, do good

While much of the time people head to a pub to get away from the world, there is a new kind of drinking establishment bubbling up that makes going to the pub in the first place a way to give back to the world. Some are calling them "philanthropubs," but whatever you call them, the concept is pretty innovative.

Every time you buy a beer or food, the profits go to a charity of your choice. That's the bottom line.

Get your head in the game

It sounds ridiculous to say, but it does take awhile to get into the swing of things while traveling. Sure, the idea of getting to go on a trip that lasts longer than two weeks to most Americans is also absurd, but there is a substantial difference between back packing, wandering, globe trotting and vacationing. While on the long haul of a trip, travelers go through stages, traverse the uncomfortable and hopefully come out with new perspectives of themselves and the world around them.

San Francisco Home Brew Barrel Walk

In case you hadn't noticed, there is a revolution in the way we make beer here in the United States. I remember as a kid seeing my dad's cooler stocked with MGD and Miller Lite and everybody seemed to be having a grand old time.

Not anymore. Last Thanksgiving there were a dozen different small batch breweries represented in the fridge, and my cousin, a beer rep, brought over a box full of another dozen leftover from different six packs. Same amount of beer, just much more variety and flavor.
