Come Up to the Lab, Let's See What's On the Slab

Ron Shandler offers his own CAT scan on this pitcher, courtesy the 2012 Forecaster, back when Wolf was healthy:*

  • Consistently has better actual ERA's than component stats (meaning, he's saavy but un-talented - jeff)
  • Low DIS (disaster) rates (meaning, his main skill is "damage control" - jeff)
  • Is an "innings eater" in "above-average SP clothing"
  • Avoid.  Crash coming (this occurred - jeff)

.

The Arsenal

Wolf was always a rare bird.  He's an 89-MPH lefty who throws everything including the kitchen sink, even making stuff up on the mound.  Check out this hilarious 49-MPH pitch he threw to Brandon Phillips.

He legitimately throws 4 pitches without prejudice, very unusual in a left hand pitcher.  You get your Shawn Marcums doing it from the right side.

He does NOT throw 4 pitches because he's got 4 good ones.  All four pitches are pretty lousy - but he does, in fact, use them with a lot of intelligence.  Check this video for confirmation.

Impress Your Date with a Trip to the Museum

Instead of sitting around and chatting idly over a few drinks, consider taking your date out to one of St. Louis’ amazing art or history museums. Sometimes just walking around and taking in the creative works of others can really get the conversation flowing, and in more intimate and introspective ways than dinner or a movie can inspire. Luckily, St. Louis has a rich selection of museum destinations to choose from.

Journalists Tweeting their horrible Sochi hotel experiences

Journalists are arriving at Sochi for the Olympics and checking into their hotel rooms… or trying to. Seems the facilities in Sochi are not quite ready for prime time, with doorknobs falling off, stray dogs wandering in and out of rooms, poisonous tap water, hotels without check-in desks, and more.

Severely bowlegged stray dog gets lifesaving surgery

A shepherd mix abandoned in Greece due to a severe deformity of his front legs (brought on by nutritional deficiencies) has been saved by a UK-based dog rescue organization. Sandy could barely walk before a dog charity raised the funds to send him to Cambridge, where a top surgeon performed Sandy’s surgery for free.

Sandy (shown above post-surgery) is now almost completely healed, and is undergoing post-surgical physical therapy so that he can learn to walk again.
