Offseason of Doom for the Legion of Boom

Since the pass heard round the world that fell into the hands of the Patriots and thwarted back to back championships for Seattle, luck has avoided the Hawks and their secondary. Following the game the news would soon surface that several of the feared legion of boom may be lost in free agency or suffered significant injuries. Much of this got lost in the confusion of the outcry that came when Beast mode did not get the ball just feet away from a TD, and Seahawks Superbowl victory.

First and foremost, you can not talk legion of boom without talking about the teams number one corner Richard Shurman. The look on his face when he saw the interception that sealed another title for the Patriots was as painful looking as the injury he suffered during the contest. He would remain in the game but injured his elbow, which required Tommy John surgery in the offseason. A surgery more closely related to baseball players, but which requires a long healing process and care that will continue throughout 2015.

The second star of that L.O.B. Earl Thomas also went down during the Patriots game, but gave his best despite. He too suffered an arm injury with a torn Labrum. This too required surgery and he has only recently began to practice with the team during training camp. It is clear both will be seeing each other in the training room this during the season and throughout the offseason.

One player you will no longer see this season is Byron Maxwell. The large outside corner opposite of Shurman took his talents to the NFC East Eagles. This was somewhat expected but is a loss overall for the Legion. In return Cary Williams was signed by Seattle from the very Eagles Maxwell flew too. Time will tell which one of these birds will fly higher.

Last, but not least Cam Chancellor has yet to be seen as he has held out much of offseason programs for the Seahawks. Chancellor has seen many fellow teammates getting paid this offseason including Beastmode, Wilson, and Wagner and has hooed to get a cut himself. With all this uncertainty between major injuries, the loss of Maxwell, and holdout of Chancellor the Hawks' secondary  has certainly had an offseason of doom that has led to more questions than answers. Time will tell if Williams is a solid addition for Maxwell, what will happen to Chancellor, and how will the surgeries that Shurman and Thomas had hold up?
