Think It Over Thursday: Those rich homeschoolers!

While it’s true that most of the homeschoolers that I know consist of two parents, one working outside the home and one doing most, if not all, of the homeschooling, this is not the case for everyone. Many of the homeschooling moms I know make and sell things at fairs or out of their homes, and I know several single homeschooling moms who support their children by themselves. I also know households where both parents work—including my own—either from home, part-time, or with alternating schedules to ensure someone is always with their children.

The madness is almost over

March may come in like a lion and leave like a lamb in regards to weather, but if you are a sports fan, this isn't true at all. The last days of March, and the first days of April, are some of the most exciting days in sports thanks to the NCAA March Madness tournament. Each year for one month, college hoops takes the center stage. With the playoff system being one giant, hectic, beautiful, single-elimination spectacle, sports fans are on the edge of their seats until the final shot on the second Monday in April.

Make that three 1000-yard receivers

This past week, pro bowl receiver Wes Welker decided to test the market in free agency. Though he had been with the Patriots since 2007, and also saw his former quarterback take a pay cut to ensure enough money to man a great team, Welker felt the need to explore. After losing his franchise tag from New England (who decided to not use it at all this season), Welker wanted to look for greener pastures. Those greener pastures have seemed to appear in the form of Rocky Mountains.

Using bee venom to prevent HIV

By now, most people have already heard the news about the baby in Mississippi that was cured of HIV shortly after being born.  Next in this scientific struggle to undermine the disease permanently is a development that may help us prevent its spread in the future.  Apparently, some researchers over at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have made promising advances in using bee venom to curb the disease.

What is with All of This Mopey Love?

When I was younger and newly in love, I remember being so happy all of the time. I didn’t even want to eat or sleep, and I smiled quite a bit. My then-boyfriend, now-husband, did too. Sure, there was a lot of, ahem, meeting of the faces, but otherwise I don’t think we were particularly melancholy in our romance, unless it had to do with those common parental issues all teens have.
