Nothing is as classic as the dinner and movie date, but finding the right movie is important to making sure that special someone isn’t bored to tears or running in fear. To help you out, I present the best of this week’s releases, so you can plan ahead.
With so much entertainment going down in NYC, sometimes it can be hard to figure out where to go. Never fear, for I’ve put together a list of a few shows and other events that happen to be taking place this week.

I/O: Fangraphs computer projects the M's as the #1 team in AL for 2015.
CRUNCH: And how could they not. Even the NBA sighed in relief when the Mariners' fingertips just missed the ledge of the 2014 postseason. Just consider yourselves lucky, SF and KC fans. (Oh, sorry. That was kinda trite. Mojo is the creative thinker out of the both of us.)
Granted, it's a first-among-peers kinda prediction. The MLB average "Wins Above Replacement" (WAR) have the average team at +33 WAR and the Mariners at +39 WAR.
Their computer algorithms, reasonably but not by logical constraint, smooths out performances so much that the "best" team in the AL is pegged at 87 wins. The 3rd-worst AL team, the Twins, wins 76 games.
That's never the case, not by miles, so we are getting an awwwwfulllll lot of smoothing toward the average for the typical ballplayer. Your own favorite player will have been smooshed into the middle of the pack, whoever he is; don't worry about the fact that Felix Hernandez' normal WAR has had 20% amputated off it. So has every other star's.
A few areas of near-certain gainz for us gonzo Mariner addicts to admire in the mirror.
Here there be political commentary. Skip on by, if that ain't cher thang :- )

Dr. Grumpy, who runs a medical center, sez,
.
People ask me all the time why EU countries appear to do better on some particular measure of medical performance. Or why they can afford to insure more of their population etc. I point out that the EU style medical systems simply could not exist in their current forms without the US. EU governments are able to spend so much on social programs because:
1. As Matt point out, the US taxpayer heavily subsidizes the security of the EU, something I think the EU has long taken for granted until recently when "stuff got real" with the Ukrainian crisis. The US tax payer essentially foots the bill for world stability, and the EU countries have been happy to allow us to do so (I don't blame them, they are only acting rationally). Sure, the US benefits from world stability also, but we pay for it.
So apparently, if you happen to be a foreign diplomat, you’re not expected to pay your parking fines. A recent look at unpaid parking tickets in NYC shows that we are owned more than $16 million from people that don’t even live here.
So will the city be able to recover these funds? Or maybe we can teach diplomats how to park properly? One thing’s for certain - that’s a lot of cash and
