Bat...why don't you try joining the modern era and DL'ing a browser that is NOT IE?

IIRC, Doc, you and I both really like the whippet-like bat he had and that he could hurt RHP some. He's not changing my mind about Son. I'm in. And Thames will get his MLB chance again.

BTW, the 40-man stuff is from Bat571 - I still am having problems staying logged in on Android, and lockups on Windows.

Re the 40-man - thanks mucho. :: daps :: When it comes to those kinda rules, I'm much more in need of help myself than able to give any :- )

Kyle - what a called shot, amigo. Amazing. What is your projected slash line for Leonys Martin next year?

Or, Thames has pulled a Cecil Fielder in #Asia and become one of the game's best hitters :- ) ... in any case, Thames' success doesn't mean that KBO hitters are all spaghetti-squash. Even in theory and even if Kang wasn't the reigning ROY.*

*Pretty much.

KBO Update: Former M Eric Thames has played for the NC Dinos in the KBO for the last two years: .343-.422-.688 in '14 and .381-.497-.790 in '15. 37 and 47 homers. Masan #Baseball stadium has a 318 ft distance to the foul poles in both corners and a 381 distance to dead center. 361 to the alleys. Thames was .261-.307-.446 vR in 536 MLB PA's. He had a quick bat, if you remember. Ke'd, too. Pay no attention, I still want Son.

Hey jemanji, I'm the anon with the Martin shouts. Finally got around to making an account on here.

Jay Yencich has a good summary up at USSM.

Friday all teams must submit final 40 man rosters (with no DL) for the R5 draft. Anyone who meets the criteria that is not on that 40-man is subject to the draft. Likewise, those not on the AAA/AA rosters Friday is subject to the minors draft.

Have heard that you can now follow @clarke_jeff for article updates and random stats. But if you want random #Baseball stats in the dead of winter, you may need intervention.

I Hultzen isn't getting stem-cell treatment on his shoulder, he needs to get a different doctor. The UFC folks are leading the way on this one with some pretty exciting results.

ICYMI: there is Dr. D Seahawk shtick in the #Football blog. Don't say you weren't warned.

And a R5 guy you might get back.

My guess is they will sign Ianetta after Friday, so any guy they DFA is more likely to get through waivers. In Rule 5 you can only lose 1, so doing that would limit their losses.

What happened with Chris Iannetta? Thought that was a done deal? Well, Dutton (as good as we got) had tweeted "Hear the #Mariners are closing in on a deal with veteran free-agent catcher Chris Iannetta." I guess we, and everybody else, reacted to that tweet and to Jerry DiPoto's instant-on image that he'd installed. But now we're hearing nada. Wonder what's up. Probly he's switching over from Iannetta to a deal for Buster Posey.

Yep, axiomatic that Hultzen may never pitch again effectively ... if the M's do drop him, that will make a statement as to the way they're betting it ...

I don't know as much about labrum and rotator cuff tears as I should, but my thoughts are, if a guy is out two years with a RC tear, can another year on the DL really help him? In my experience with non athletes with labrum or rotator cuff problems, there is the surgery phase, then there is physical therapy for frozen shoulder. Physical therapy takes about 6 months or so, and then the person plateaus with as much use out of his shoulder as he is going to get. Maybe a pitcher needs another nine months to pick up arm strength after the PT phase. The surgery was in February of 2014.

Guti under appreciated? Guilty as charged. For some reason, even Dr. D can see the cool factor at this point. What a pleasure to have in 2016 class. He and Seth Smith and several others, to me they say that Jerry DiPoto has nowhere NEAR the chip on his shoulder against Zduriencik's players, that Z had against Bavasi's.

Mojo - I think that might be what the M's need to do with Hultzen - a 60 day DL (since he's out of options and has to make the 25 out of spring training). Very tough to cut bait so soon on a #2 overall pick. And we've heard G-#Money advise lots of patience with such medical projects. :: shrug :: or not...

If you'd gone "all in" and given the Sox five to eight glorious prospects for Jackie Bradley Jr. ... you'd have been Buying Way High that's for sure. Bradley cobbled a 120 OPS+ last year but is 75 lifetime, including that. Has a .290 OBP lifetime ... in Fenway! Now, Kevin Pillar mighta been a different subject...

KBC "If Dipoto brings in another corner OF with a solid bat this move will feel a ton better." I'll bet we would get an 80%, 90% fan poll on that one. Most of us are a bit queasy about the 2016 James Jones Redux scenario, so let's hope that ain't the whole delta from 2016.

KBC "It was going to be difficult (near impossible) to find a great defensive CF who can also really hit the ball without paying a ton." This. DiPoto had already warned that he was not going to be throwing $$$ at the problems. And any +15 UZR glove in the middle of the field who can hit, is costing you those pesky All-Star bonus checks.

KingBC - thanks for joining the convo! Cool start too. Nice when you see a pithy comment that has to be unpacked for full enjoyment. .... :- )

Edgar the new market inefficiency? He was the old one ... never been anything in his life but a market inefficiency. :- ) More seriously, after the M's throw their parade we fully expect a rash of Bernie Williams, Fred Lynn, Al Kaline, and Rod Carew 'celebrities' recruited to co-exist with their managers and sprinkle their magic sparkle dust on the game's hitters ...

Moe - so you go with Son, at 4 years, starting job, even offloading Smith. Wow. An uncompromising rec from El Alcalde. You doing the POTD or am I? ;- )

Decidedly LH in SeaTown? Right-O - I guess if you include Elias & #Montgomery, as well as the likes of Olmos-Nuno-Olsen, to be legit factors then yeah. True, they're on the 40-man. Sort of assumed that DiPoto regarded all those guys as dubious, but perhaps not. Tomorrows #News today... all you gotta do is parse the GM's daily patter ...

Even if Guti never goes back to being a starter, and the odds are way against him, I will still love him. He is the ultimate underdog - underappreciated when we acquired him, underappreciated in #Cleveland, afflicted with a rare digestive disorder right in his prime, gifted with...only so-so skills but incredible instincts, fighting through an improbable string of bad-luck injuries...and staying positive the entire time. So much so that DiPoto thinks he's the best guy in the Mariner clubhouse for team chemistry. This is a classic #Baseball "good guy"...will never stop rooting for him.

Absolutely not, Matt... I still hold out a little hope that he keeps his hot bat from last year, and also returns to super CF form... Heck I still hold out hope that he goes back to being a full time player :) a man can dream!

Reply - Browns8625 - 11/18/15 2:23pm

That's what we need. The end of of year was much better and consistant. Hotter bats less mistakes on bases, and less bad pen
