Welcome to the Team
T-Birds draft Jake Lee

During the 2016 Bantam Draft this morning in Calgary, Canada, the Seattle Thunderbirds selected defenseman Jake Lee as a new team member. Lee was the 18th pick during the first round of draft selections. Lee stands at 6’1 and weighs 175 pounds. He comes from the Sherwood Park Flyers Bantam AAA team, where his stats included 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points in 32 regular season games. During the 10 playoff games the defenseman played, he made 2 goals and 8 assists. To catch the video of the draft, click here.

T-Birds Director of Player Personnel Cal Filson said that Lee will be a big asset to the team. “Lee is a very good two-way player who is responsible. Lee is one of the top defensemen in Alberta who is a smooth skater. He will be an impact player.” That sounds pretty promising and those stats are pretty good, too. Are you looking forward to seeing Lee on the ice soon next season? Have you ever seen him play before? If you are from the Sherwood area or if you’ve ever seen him play otherwise, tell us what you think below in the comments. We have several young men heading off into the NHL next season, so we will need some power on the team to make up the difference.

Will you be tuning in to the WHL Championship? Game 1 is tomorrow in Brandon. The puck will drop at 6:00 PM. Do you think the Birds will just sail through like they have pretty much since the playoffs began this season? Having only lost one game among all of the series, they are setting a pretty high precedent to follow. Since it’s their own, hopefully it won’t be too hard to meet or even beat, right?

If you were hoping for tickets to games 3 and 4 at the ShoWare Center, the tickets are already sold out for game 3! Tickets for game 4 remain on sale both online and at the box office. You can visit the box office any time from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Don’t forget that game 4 is also a Whiteout Wednesday, taking place on May 11. That means that the first 5,000 fans who walk in the door will receive a special limited edition FREE T-Birds white t-shirt just for showing up. It will be an awesome souvenir, especially when the Birds win.
