Copa America starts tomorrow
What are the US' chances?

The Copa America kicks off tomorrow with hosts USA taking on James Rodriguez and Colombia. It's the first Copa America tournament to no be held in South America, and will kick off at Soldier Field in Chicago. The USA makes a return to the tournament, and head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has said that the goal is to get to the semifinals. But what are the realistic expectations for Team USA?

Let's start with the coach, shall we? Klinsmann is in his fifth year at the helm of the American ship, and despite much fanfare around his arrival, his results have been somewhat underwhelming. Yes, the USMT had an impressive World Cup appearance in 2014, but it can be argued that much of it was attributed to Tim Howard's performance (who will not be in front of goal in the Copa). And although he has said that making the final four is the goal, they might not even make it out of their group.

Drawn in Group A, they face three teams in Colombia, Costa Rica and Paraguay that have enjoyed a run of great success recently. Paraguay got to the Copa America semifinals last year, beating Brazil along the way. Costa Rica made the 2014 World Cup quarterfinal round after finishing first in a group that included England, Italy and Uruguay. Not to mention they have maybe the best goal keeper in the tournament in Keylor Navas, who's coming off a Champions League win which saw him concede zero goals at home.

As for the team at hand, los cafeteros boast an offense as good as any in the tournament. Even without captain and all-time leading goalscorer Radamel Falcao, they have two very potent weapons in James and Carlos Bacca. The 24-year-old James burst onto the scene in the 2014 World Cup, going home the tournament's leading scorer and leading the team to a quarterfinal finish - best in team history. However, he has had a subpar season at Real Madrid, which may motivate him to prove his worth in this tournament.

Bacca, a forward for AC Milan, looks to pick up the slack for Falcao as the other offensive threat for the Colombians. He's coming off an impressive campaign in Italy, scoring 18 goals in 36 appearances for Milan.

Their kick-off match will prove key for the US, if they can pick up three points and some momentum, they could position themselves to win the group. Win the group, and they should be able to avoid a matchup with Brazil in the quarterfinal.

That could be the difference between disappointment and reaching Klinsmann's goal.
