Seahawks offense needs to learn how to close

So far in this rapidly aging 2015 season, one trend remains more disturbing than any other, the Seahawks inability to close out games on offense. Sure, other than in their two wins the defense has given up at least 27 points in each loss. Though upon further review that number does not tell the whole story.

Against St. Louis and Cincinnati the Seahawks carried a lead into the fourth quarter, which one might say the defense blew. But one most consider how have failed to produce long drives on a consistent basis in the second half, thus leaving the defense on the field longer. As a result, the defense tires in the fourth quarter, finally imploding after being rock solid throughout the game. In five games the Seahawks have nearly a 50-50 split for time of possession, 31:53 to 31:36 for opponents.

Further more the offense has failed to put more than 17 points on the board in 3 of their 5 games despite winning the turnover battle in 2 of those contests.

Even more inexplicable is how the Seahawks didn’t even target Jimmy Graham on the last six drives of their loss to the Bengals. This could be due to excellent coverage by the Bengals, but if Drew Brees could find ways to feed Graham, Russell Wilson should be able to as well. While one might say they aren’t the same QB, they Wilson is getting paid like an elite QB, and elite QB’s find a way to get their top targets the ball.

The defense just doesn't seem to have the stamina they had when Quinn was here. Not having Unger at center seems to have left the offensive line ill prepared for adjusting to defensive changes. They also appear to be tiring going into the fourth quarter. They couldn't hold a decent 4th quarter lead against StL and were completely worthless agaist the Bengals. They kept it close until the 4th quarter against the Pack, They even tried to give the Lions game away late, too. If they don't start showing up in the last quarter, this is going to be a long year for the team and the 12's.
