Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for June 24
Wilson makes his debut ... Rainiers slug a bunch ... more Choi Joy ... etc.

Back in the saddle with, thankfully, a short slate of games.

AAA -- Tacoma 14, Fresno 4  -- Box

The Rainiers must have thought they were in Colorado Springs.

Carlos Peguero (Watch List) went 4-for-4 with two doubles.   Alex Liddi (Talk40 #29) had a home run, a double and a walk.  Brad Miller (Talk40 #6) had two more doubles.

On the mound it was Brandon Maurer (Talk40 #9), who continued the big strikeout totals that the "Next Five" have been ringing up this week: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 9 K.

That was Maurer's first start since being pulled last week due to "lower back tightness."  Looks like it was not a major issue, although it was the worst of his four "real" starts at AAA.

AA -- Tennessee 5, Jackson 1  -- Box

Choi Joy! But not a lot of other joy.

All our man Ji-Man Choi (Talk40 #19) does at AA is hit home runs.  He has nine hits and four of them are homers.  Not that we mind.  His AA BABIP is .147, so we don't think he'll be doing it forever.

A good start for Roenis Elias (26intheMix), but the offense and bullpen didn't help him:  6.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K.  Also a problem: both the hits were home runs.

Short Season-A -- Everett 3, Hillsboro 2 -- Box

The debut of Austin WIlson ("Megatron at the Bat").  Nothing Megatronish Monday, but impressive: single and two walks.

D.J. Peterson also drew two walks.  Cool.

Rookie -- Bluefield 4, Pulaski 2 -- Box

Two more hits, including a double, for Isaiah Yates (Talk40 #39).

Strong outing on the mound for Jose Flores: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.

... as is The Iron Giant. So we'll all have to put our noggins together and conjure up an appropriate aka for Wilson.

2

Doesn't it wander in the North Cascades? Maybe one got lost and ended up in Everett.(with a $1.7mil bonus?)

I dubbed him "Megatron at the Bat" since he reminded me of Calvin Johnson if he were a baseball player.
But we're always open to alternatives.  Not a top-down blog here.  The floor is open ...

...nicknames for Wilson during his time with the Cardinal baseball team: Big Willy and Black Stealth. I kid you not. Kinda expect more from Stanfordites.
I'm no better. All I've got is Austin Powers-Wilson. Wouldn't have been appropriate during his college career, since they apparently frown on home runs at Palo Alto.

His nickname is "Chick"....  Although that twitter account has not be 100% verified to be the M's Austin Wilson...  ;)

Austin Powers is SO last century. Mike Myers stopped being funny a very long time ago by modern standards. :D
How about simply WILSON! (a.k.a. the volleyball)
