A Cougar Shutout
T-Birds win 4-0

T-Birds fans everywhere had to be heard across the city after the shutout game that occurred on January 13. On Wednesday night, the Seattle Thunderbirds pretty much annihilated the Prince George Cougars in a match at the CN Center. The final tally was 4-0 Birds, with no goals on the board at all until the final period of the evening. Because of this game, Birds are now 23-15-3-0 in the US Division. Although they are still behind for first place, they are only three points behind the Silvertips now.

Landon Bow was on point all night. He made 26 saves, refusing to allow a single puck into the T-Bird net. Fans have been slow to warm on Bow because of his indifferent appearance when it comes to playing on the ice, but that night’s game definitely won many people over. As many fans have speculated, Bow is likely simply feeling out his teammates, getting to know the team dynamic and where he fits in. He definitely proved that he cares with his biggest victory of the season yet. In fact, it was the first shutout that the Birds have had all season—so while we may still be missing Taz, we do have a lot to be proud of in Bow. The Cougars attempted seven power plays and Bow blocked every single one of them.

Although the T-Birds outshot the Cougars during the first period, no goals were made just yet. In fact, the scoreboard remained blank until the third period when the Birds planted on all four goals of the night. New member Cavin Leth had a great night, scoring two goals. Fans got to see new player Bryan Allbee make an assist on the second goal along with Andreas Schumacher, who passed it to him. Ryan Gropp made the third goal of the night, which was assisted by Mathew Barzal and Nick Holowko. Jerret Smith scored the final goal of the evening.

With games like this, the Birds make winning seem too easy—and they give us a taste of what they can do when they really work hard together as a team. In this tame, both new and old players really came together to make it happen and we look forward to seeing many more games like this one. Fans on social media are already gearing up for the next game, expecting more magic from Bow and power plays from the team. Another shutout? Maybe…
