Soup can crafts

Which are your favorites?

Wood Sprite and I have a lot of fun with empty cans. Every once in a while, I let her buy a can of Scooby Doo soup, which is not great for her but she loves. We also are notorious for collecting cans, soda bottles, milk jugs and other containers from relatives to use in our mess making. So we accumulate plenty of recyclables for our madness.

Wood Sprite took a photo of one of our favorite can crafts—this cute little owl can. She filled it with Halloween rings to give out to friends throughout the month when they visit (of course, we keep forgetting to hand them out—and I’m pretty sure she raided it for all of the bats). It’s such a simple craft; we pretty much just painted it to look like an owl and added cardboard embellishments. Art Projects for Kids has the original craft tutorial you can use, too.

We have another project we are working on involving cans as a mobile. We’re painting them and throwing glitter all over them to hang outside. I think it’s going to look really cute when we are done, and we definitely do not have enough glitter outside. Last summer we did sprinkle the sidewalk with some glitter nail polish, though; you can still find the blue-green, star-sprinkled globs!

A final craft we are making is something we’ve made before but gave away: little jellyfish out of our fruit cups. 4 Crazy Kings has the tutorial on their website. Aren’t they cute? I am hoping to find some glittery ribbon or yarn to hang in ours.

What do you like to make out of cans?
